The Wave Pictures from Wymeswold, England have been making music since 1998 with their first label release coming in 2006.  Through this time, David Tattersall on vocals and guitar, Franic Rozycki on bass guitar, and Jonny Helm on drums (and solo vocals in one song recorded live that evening) have honed their performance and built up a large catalog of music.  April 25th 2012 brought Kung Fu Necktie this solid act fronted by Tattersall who has mastered the guitar solo – almost, if not every, track contained one of varied style.

The band has a Smiths-esque aesthetic to it but it does not come close to defining them.  Their recipe is more complicated than mimicking anything at all.  The previously mentioned diversity in guitar solos ensure that.  There is also a more upbeat feel to the tracks with muted cowbell included on a track or two.  Track lyrics sku abstract and we love it.  Still on tour in the US for a few more weeks, Philly was lucky to catch them on the second show of their Stateside tour.  If you have a chance, go support these guys.  If you need convincing, check out our vids below:

Fists were stateside in Philly at JB’s on March 15th, 2012.  The band is an indie rock amalgam out of Nottingham, England.  Tracing their origins to 2005, Fists have garnered attention from Radio1 along with NME and a hodgepodge of other critics.  In 2008 the band signed to Hello Thor records and released their first single.  Various other singles and an EP have followed.

Check out their track “ascending” via the bandcamp link above.  We think it’s our favorite and were stoked to get it on the limited press 7″ with band-done screen printing.  Really good stuff that is hard to put on a finger on.  We just know it makes us feel good.  Check out some video from their show at JB’s below:

We have another video or two of Fists over on our YouTubes page + tons more.

Those in attendance at Union Transfer in Philadelphia on January 12th 2012 got a sneak peak into what will become an increasingly popular name later in the year – King Krule.  Starting out in 2010 as Zoo Kid, King Krule changed his stage name/band name in the middle of 2011 already having had several scene-popular tracks under his belt. Continually building the repertoire, Archy Marshall aka King Krule, has a muddled-melodic and slick vocal sound that glides above bluesy-rock eclectic guitar.  To miss this would have been a tragedy.

Putting on a tight show with backing band, King Krule embedded a sound in our brains that will remain there indefinitely.  The 17 year old took the stage like a veteran and we can only but imagine what it’s like to be across the pond, playing big venues, in a project of your own creation at that age.  Stunning show.  Talent like that should support a long career and we truly hope King Krule doesn’t fall through the cracks.  We are betting he won’t.  Check him out:
