Last in our 3 part series of reviews from rockaphilly‘s stellar F*ck Chill Wave event (but certainly not least) we again caught Lushlife hot on the heels of the release of his new mixtape; No More Golden Days.

It should be noted that we have never reviewed a show from the same artist twice and we cannot think of a better one on which to break the streak.  Lushlife, aka Raj Haldar, once again put on a sick performance working between his machinery and mic.  A broken laptop didn’t hold him back as he delivered his verses crisply to the enthused concertgoers.  We were super stoked to hear so many tracks off his new tape and to see him in a more intimate venue; one at which he could use background imagery to complete his live show picture on the JB backdrop screens.  An amazing performer, writer and musician, check out our video from the show and DON’T MISS HIM at these upcoming concert dates.  Seriously, don’t miss him:

We finally got to witness the Lo-Fi/Country-Punk/Rock & Roll duo known as Sunny Ali and The Kid October 28th at JB’s as part of rockaphilly‘s amazing 3 band lineup.  You may not be familiar with these guys but it’s your loss if not.  You may be wondering what country punk is and what it sounds like.  For those curious, we have videos and links to the band’s material on bandcamp following the article.

Sunny Ali and The Kid have perfected their sound and look with twangy rock guitar, steady drum kit and quint essential county getup including cowboy hats.  These guys are fun to listen to.  Blending country guitar twang with punk-rock vocals and lo-fi craftsmanship, SA&TK are carving out a new direction in sound.  Reminiscent of early county-rock crossover acts, Sunny Ali delivers his slightly punk vocals while staying true to a country artist’s stage presence.  Even though the band boasts no country influences, there is still that country feel but in the most non-traditional way possible.  We love those who think outside the box.  SA&TK does just that.

Hailing from South Philly, the band spends considerable time at gigs in NY and outside the states.  Perhaps this nomad-ism is what has caused us not to have caught them before; but more importantly, it has helped shape their sound and stage  sensibilities.  Both of these are characteristics we loved.  SA&TK are one of the best acts in Philly and should you listen to country music, you will never hear it the same after hearing these guys.

If these videos aren’t enough, head on over to the LPC YouTube channel to check out some more videos of SA&TK from the night.

Philadelphia-based Brown Recluse played an inspiring and well-crafted psychedelic baroque pop set as part of rockaphilly‘s October 28th event at JB’s. With select songs from multiple EP and LP efforts, it was truly a greatest hits [up until this point] type of show.  Brown Recluse chose to play many songs that captured the feel of Halloween and made use of JB’s stage screens to project holiday relevant silent film graphics behind them.  It was awesome.

For those of you not familiar with Brown Recluse, they are predominantly a four-piece band consisting of Tim, Mark, Dan, Shawn and are on the Slumberland record label.  Continuously evolving over the last 5 years, the band’s most recent effort, “Evening Tapestry” consists of “juxtaposing eerie, minor-key psychedelia with their melancholic take on sunshine pop.”  Having toured with the likes of The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Tyvek, Dirty Projectors, & Matt and Kim, Brown Recluse is definitely behind the scenes working at the forefront of today’s best Indie acts.

We encourage you to get out and support them at their upcoming shows at Milkboy and The Barbary and present to you some video from that fine October eve when Brown Recluse did the ordinary – play a solid and flawless show:

** We apologize for the article re-write.  The original was lost due to an error while editing via the wordpress app.  During the process we also lost a comment or two which we regret terribly.
