On September 26th the formidable sound explosion known as the Minor Stars out of Chapel Hill, NC blitzed KFN in Philly. Ripping guitar solo’s, thrashed drumming, haunting vocals and steady bass were the fare of the evening. We ate it up.
The Minor Stars play indie psychedelic rock well. Their songs move in and out of distort and harmony blending noise and melody. Having previewed their new album, The Death of the Sun in the Silver Sea (on Summer Secret Records), we were stoked to see how the finished product would translate. It translated well, and the raw energy of their live performance shined this night. Lead guitarist Eric Wallen truly owns his performances and the sound he produces is stunning. A classic electric guitar player in sound and style. Iain Watt on drums cultivates tight, punk-reminiscent hits with Dustin Creider binding it all together with solid bass lines. Drawing comparissons to Black Mountain, Fugazi, and the In Color-era of Cheap Trick we can say without question that Minor Stars are cutting out a niche of there own.
