Edit:  Article has been updated to reflect change in band name.

Bleeding Rainbow is the Philly band formally known as Reading Rainbow from Fishtown.  The three piece has been making quite a name for themselves with their own brand of indie/punk/beach/garage/psychedelic music – a complex one with loud drums and killer guitar solos like Best Coast with more pronounced electric guitars and one girl & two dudes.

For their first Union Transfer performance on November 17th the band opened up for Los Campesinos! and delivered a solid performance in spite of questionable sound maintenance (also noted by The Swollen Fox in their piece).  We would love to see these guys in a smaller venue to really feed off the vibe, and since they are local we know this will be possible!

With multiple 7″ers out of solid singles adorned with magical artwork in addition to two Long Plays, there is plenty of music of theirs to jam to.

If you wanted to hear about a few local bands to get behind, this is definitely one.  Check out some video from their performance below and be sure to catch them at Johnny Brenda’s November 25th!:

The once clouded in mystery quartet from Manchester, England – WU LYF – played Voyeur Nightclub in Philly on November 5th.  Ellery James Roberts (Vocals, Organ), Thomas David Francis McClung (Vocals, Bass, Guitar),  Evans Kati (Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica) and Joseph Louis Harland Manning (Drums, Piano) incensed the crowd to frenzy with their Indie Post-Rock assault leaving no one untouched.  A show charged with immense energy from beginning to end, the WU LYF set was one for the ages and a true pleasure to witness.

Caught in a sea of people we watched as the band delivered songs as good as those pressed in studio and for some it would have been hard to tell the difference.  Whether or not this was concert-drunkenness talking we can’t be quite sure.  What we do know was that a giant WU LYF sign was perched prominently in the DJ booth.  Ellery had a sweet jean jacket on with the WU LYF detail emblazoned on the back.  They came with lights and graphics which were projected onto the screens above the main floor.  Smoke hung in the air as people lit up inside the club (smoking allowed) and was defrayed by the constantly moving beams of light from the venue’s light system.  Crazy stuff guys.  Add to that the sounds of WU LYF and this thing was classic.

We could go on about the band but instead present a series of videos we took from the pit as the masses swarmed and WU LYF dominated the stage:

The Über-talented duo PS I Love You out of Kingston, Ontario played Kung Fu Necktie in Philly on October 18th and brought with it scortching guitar and precision drumming.  They played through every single song you wish you had heard and made it their last stop on their US tour.

PS I Love You Live @ KFN

The band was originally a solo project for multi-instrumentalist Paul Saulnier (thus the initials PS in PS I Love You).  Now with Benjamin Nelson on drums, the project has involved into a sound larger than the two by themselves.  We enjoyed hearing these guys and appreciated their additions in song composition – extending guitar and drum solos and really playing to the crowd.

Now on Paperbag records and with Best New Song and an 8.1 album rating from Pitchfork credentials, PS I love You seems to be in place to garner increased critic-love now and into the future.  Make sure you don’t miss them on their next Philly stop.  Check out what you saw if you were there or missed if you weren’t below:
